“I apply, shape, and sculpt in layers heavy body acrylic paints using unconventional tools of the trade. I then apply washes to the texture accentuating the depth and relief of the raised paints.”
While other artists use a brush or a palette knife, Eddie Powell uses his hands, spoons, and forks. While others apply paint, he applies and then removes. Unconventional process inspires professional southern artist, Eddie Powell. And it is the words, “uniquely textured”, that describes his iconic works of fine art.
Born in 1965 in Chattanooga, TN, Eddie grew up with artistic talent in drawing and painting. Winning awards in his studies as a teen, Eddie pushed forward to best use his talent in his adult years. After becoming an award-winning art director in the advertising world in Atlanta, New York City, and Birmingham, Eddie left the advertising business in 2005 when he took a leap of faith. He opened his own gallery at The Beaches of South Walton 30A community. He was there two years honing his craft. He returned to Birmingham where he still lives today participating in solo exhibitions, and a growing list of galleries.
